the Little Red Schoolhouse

Today, we explored what it would have been like to be in school during the 1875.  Our class had a small taste of what it was like to be students in a one-room schoolhouse.  We learned about some of the responsibilities a teacher had towards her students.  We also had a music class where we learned songs that children would have sung during this time period.  One song was:
                                                    Row, Row, Row your boat
   Gently down the stream.
   Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily
   Life is but a dream.

What do you think it would have been like attending classes in a one-room schoolhouse?  Would you have been willing to walk several miles to come to school?  Do you think school classes would have been harder or easier than classes today? Would you have liked writing with a quill pen?

Can you remember what a woman school teacher was called? What were some of the types of food that a student would have brought for lunch? What was your most favorite part of class?  I look forward to reading your thoughts.

I was very surprised by the old school and the traditional rules there and how the teacher should treated her students at class. It was similar little bit in my country.I really like the music class especially when we were singing together :

Row, Row, Row your boat ..
    Gently down the stream..
    Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily ..
    Life is but a dream...

  3. Today we went to the Little Red Schoolhouse it near the campus and it's a has a small class. There was so many interesting thing over there such as,
there is two doors one of them for the girls and the other for the boys. I like the small board and the book for the 1st grade.

I like that moments when we sing with teacher Dorinda and when she playing with the piano, It's memorable moments.

Also, there some thing attracted me about drinking water the teacher pour for the students a water and all of them drink from the same cup and she do that twice, in the beginning of the class and in the end of the class because there is some students take along time to arrived to their houses, so they need some power to get there.

  4. hello every one :)
whats wrong with our pictures ?? lol
anyway, this trip was pretty awesome, we saw that how old people can get their education.
their school was so far and the students had to walk daily from their houses to the school which means all the students have same idea which is " whatever the price we need to be educated "

  6. Yesterday we went to one of the oldest school in Bowling Green near to our building in BGSU University. I really really loved the classroom and how did they look. We sat on the beautiful old wood chairs and wrote in old small boards. Then we read old books. After that our lovely teacher start to sing for us a song then we did it again with piano. I encourage every one to take history class to see other cultures history.

  7. Yesterday I took a great and ancient class. I went with my classmates to the Little Red Schoolhouse. When I went inside a felt like I am in an old movie. I drank water by the same cup with other studies. I studied with different level students. We took reading, writing, and music classes. We used our own tablets and chalks to writ. It was a wonderful experience.

  11. We went to the schoolhouse last week. It was wonderful experience to me because I was able to see and learn a lot of things. The structure of the classroom was very similar to that of korean classroom about 50 years ago. In addition, I learned that the teacher's role was very important; not only teaching, but also checking the condition of the classroom were so important. Students were enjoying the song!
