Fort Meigs!!!!!

What a fortunate group we were today to have such a great guide on our trip to Fort Meigs. We learned so much about the War of 1812.  What do you think life would have been like to live in the fort at the time of the War of 1812?
What would you have eaten when you were in the fort?  What kind of bread would you have eaten?  What kind of container would you have drank out of?   What was your favorite part of the tour?  What was your least favorite part?
Can you remember who the commander was of the US troops?  Let us know what you think :)

  1. Fort Meigs was the best place I've visited in this class so far since I am interested in military or war histories. Probably this is because I was a soldier and I am accustomed to military. Actually, I am so confused which countries fought in 1812. I thought the war was between France and England, but I could find Americans and native Americans (Indians) in the movie and the picture. And I don't know why Canada confuses me. Anyway, I really felt that the weapons were so sophisticated and great. Moreover, the guide's explanation was so good. I need to search and get information about the 1812 war.

    1. "I really felt that the weapons were so sophisticated and great." yeah you right it WAS, but comparing with the weapons these days make you laugh because he side he can't shot anything by that weapon that he used in 50 feet.

  2. Hi Edward,
the War of 1812 was between the US and Great Britain. The British tried to regain power over the US. The Canadians and Native Americans joined the British in the fight again the US. The war in the movie took place about 50 years before this war. I hope this helps :)

    1. Thank you very much teacher Dorinda!

Do you know why Native Americans joined the British?

    2. Yes :) They joined with the British because the British had promised them the part of the Northwest territory. The native Americans were tired of what they perceived as greedy white people coming and taking their land. They were being pushed out of their own lands and wanted to have a safe place to live and raise their families. Thus, they sided with the British

  3. Yesterday we went to Fort Meigs, the place were the war in 1812 took place in. people who see this places right now don't believe that a war was there. It's beautiful place it's green lovely area with a river near to it. while i was walking there i felt like this area wasn't place that has war before it's an awesome area. We learned what the solders were using to defend on their country and what they were eating and how they sleep. I don't imagine that the swamp was very high that who walk in that place it can be high to the knees. Who fight in that war was honor to him to fight with that hard position. It was an amazing trip and thanks for the guider who explained everything for us ^^.

    4. Edward :) yes I agree it is interesting that the clothes were designed to intimidate the enemy. Do you think people dress that way nowadays? Do they dress to intimidate or give a different impression of themselves?

  6. Yesterday we went to Fort Meigs, it was an amazing trip.
When we arrived inside the building i felt interested about
what I saw such as, clothes and some heritage items.

Then we took a walk with our leader and he started to explained why he wore that clothes. He has a gun and he put a gunpowder inside it. he shoot it and i felt afraid because this is the first time i hear a shoot and i am near it, so it was a good experience.

We saw a scheme of their life in the past, i very liked it and i liked the people and how they drew them.
