Modern Marvels and the Canal

Hi gang!!!
This weekend you had to watch a video on the canals of the United States.  The truth is that, for its time, it was an amazing venture!  What do you see as the most amazing part of the canal project?  How did the building of the canal open the Ohio Territory?  What were some of the dangers of the canal?  Would you have wanted to have traveled on a canal packet?  

Fort Meigs!!!!!

What a fortunate group we were today to have such a great guide on our trip to Fort Meigs. We learned so much about the War of 1812.  What do you think life would have been like to live in the fort at the time of the War of 1812?
What would you have eaten when you were in the fort?  What kind of bread would you have eaten?  What kind of container would you have drank out of?   What was your favorite part of the tour?  What was your least favorite part?

Today we watched a movie about the oil and gas been boom here in Ohio. What surprised you or amazed you? Write your thoughts here.

Clothes! Clothes! Clothes!

Today we took a look at the clothes people wore during the War of 1812 and some clothes that a girl may have worn during the 1840-1860.

What are your thoughts about clothes and how they are different or similar to the clothes you wore when you were younger or your grandparents wore?  Share and explain your answers.  Would it have been easy to do your daily chores or activities using these clothes? What is your opinion?

the Little Red Schoolhouse

 

Today, we explored what it would have been like to be in school during the 1875.  Our class had a small taste of what it was like to be students in a one-room schoolhouse.  We learned about some of the responsibilities a teacher had towards her students.  We also had a music class where we learned songs that children would have sung during this time period.  One song was:
                                                    Row, Row, Row your boat 
   Gently down the stream.
   Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily
   Life is but a dream.


What do you think it would have been like attending classes in a one-room schoolhouse?  Would you have been willing to walk several miles to come to school?  Do you think school classes would have been harder or easier than classes today? Would you have liked writing with a quill pen?

 Can you remember what a woman school teacher was called? What were some of the types of food that a student would have brought for lunch? What was your most favorite part of class?  I look forward to reading your thoughts.

The Wood County Historical Museum

Hi Wonderful Students!!!! I figured out after hours of searching how to post.  The new system was a bit confusing, but I have conquered and prevailed!!!!! Yahooo!
Well let's think about our wonderful day at the Wood County Historical Museum.

 We had a wonderful time exploring Northwest Ohio's History.  By visiting this poor house for Wood County Ohio, we were able to step back in time.  What where some of your first thoughts as we looked at this very large building?  Were you able to imagine people walking around the house working and doing chores? What was your favorite part of the tour?  What did you think about the man who murdered his wife?  What was your least favorite part of the tour?  What were your thoughts as we entered the Lunatic Asylum?  Were you frightened, creeped out, or did you feel nothing?  What are your thoughts about the place being haunted?

As a person who lived in Wood County, would you have found this place a safe place from all the other trials of living in the Great Black Swamp?  Make sure you respond and then respond to two other writers.

Wintergarden Park and the Black Swamp

Today we explored Wintergarden Park!  What a wonderful time we had!!!!!   This was our first adventure of many!  When considering the people who moved here to the Bowling Green Area, why do you think they moved here?  What would have been the reason for a person to leave all they know to move to a place covered by swamps and infested with mosquitos?
